Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transport Depot Manager to oversee the operations of our transport depot located in Peterborough. The Transport Depot Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of depot operations, including staff management, fleet maintenance, scheduling, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company policies. This is a lone working position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise depot staff, including drivers, administrative personnel, and maintenance workers. Provide leadership and guidance to ensure a cohesive and efficient team.
  • Fleet Management: Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the transport fleet, including vehicles, trailers, FLT and equipment. Co-ordinate with maintenance personnel to schedule regular inspections, repairs, and servicing to ensure the safety and reliability of the fleet.
  • Scheduling: Develop and implement efficient scheduling procedures to optimise the use of resources and meet customer demands. Co-ordinate with dispatchers and drivers to ensure timely delivery of goods while minimising costs and maximising efficiency.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including health and safety standards, driver regulations, and environmental regulations. Keep abreast of changes in legislation and implement necessary measures to ensure compliance.
  • Customer Service: Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by addressing customer enquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner. Work closely with the customer service team to resolve issues and ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the depot budget, including expenses related to staffing, maintenance, fuel, and other operational costs. Monitor expenses and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on depot performance, including key performance indicators (KPIs), operational metrics, and financial performance. Analyse data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for growth.

 Qualifications/Experience:

  • Proven experience in a similar role within the transportation or logistics industry.
  • Management CPC is essential.
  • No endorsements on driving licence.
  • IOSH qualification is preferable but not essential.
  • B2C experience, minimum of 3 years.
  • It’s important you have exposure of working in a fast-paced environment – no two days will be the same and we need you to think on your feet.
  • Previous experience supervising and developing a team within a transport environment.
  • Every day you’ll need to have an eye on continuous improvement of operational efficiencies and fleet performance.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Sound knowledge of transport regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and technology, including transportation management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office suite.
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred.

 Salary:

Competitive salary package £40k per annum
