Key industry players join Board of Oil & Gas UK

Industry association Oil & Gas UK welcomes new representatives from Total and BP to its board.

Ariel Flores, Regional President for BP North Sea, brings an array of subsurface, operations and business expertise to the board. Having joined BP in 1999 as an operations engineer, Ariel has extensive experience in running large assets and developing reservoirs in major hydrocarbon basins around the world, including the US, Russia, UK, the Middle East, Azerbaijan and Angola.

Commenting on his appointment, Ariel Flores, said: “Oil & Gas UK plays a vital role in our industry and provides a strong voice for its members and the wider sector. They have also helped us steer a course through some challenging times. I am delighted to be joining the Board and am very much looking forward to making a positive contribution alongside my fellow Board members and the leadership team at Oil & Gas UK.”

Jean-Luc Guiziou Managing Director of Total E&P, has worked for Total throughout his career.  A geophysicist by training, he has worked throughout the world in exploration and production roles as well as in corporate finance roles at Total’s headquarter.  He has held a number of senior roles as Managing Director of Total E&P Canada, President of Total United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi and more recently as Senior Vice-President, Subsidiaries Financial Operations at Total’s Corporate Finance.

Mr Guiziou said, “Oil & Gas UK does an excellent job supporting the UK’s offshore oil and gas industry and it is an honour to represent Total on its board. I look forward to working with Deirdre Michie, her team and the other board members in helping our industry maintain the UKCS basin’s competitiveness and providing the energy the UK requires.”

Deirdre Michie, Chief Executive Oil & Gas UK, said: “Ariel and Jean-Luc bring an incredibly broad cross-section of experience to the Board. Challenging economic conditions continue to put real pressure on our industry’s businesses but we are leaner and fitter than we could have imagined just a few years ago. Biographies:

  • Ariel Flores joined the North Sea as Regional President in April 2018, after previously holding the role of General Manager for the Rumaila field and Head of Country for Iraq. He served as Vice-President for BP and was a member of the Middle East Regional Leadership Team. He joined BP in Houston, Texas. Since then, he has held a variety of technical and business roles in the US, Russia, UK, the Middle East, Azerbaijan and Angola. He has spent time in the BP and TNK-BP executive offices working with executives to establish technical and functional ways of working to improve safety, efficiency and delivery.

 

  • Jean-Luc Guiziou became Managing Director of Total E&P in the UK in May 2018. He is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Géologie de Nancy and Stanford University. He joined TOTAL in 1988 as a Research & Development project manager in geophysics. In the 1990s he worked for Total Austral (Argentina) as a Senior Geophysicist and then at Total’s Corporate Finance in Paris, before becoming Vice-President, Americas, as a coordinator for Total’s exploration & production activities in the Southern Cone. Since 2002, he has held a number of leadership roles for Total in Canada, Paris and Abu Dhabi, and most recently served as Senior Vice-President, Subsidiaries Operations at Total’s Corporate Finance.
