VIDEO: See BP’s pioneering North Sea rig

The clip from 1972 shows North Sea oil rig ‘Sea Quest’ in the glory of its heyday.

The semi-submersible drilling rig discovered the UK’s first North Sea oil on September 14, 1969, in the Arbroath Field.

She also discovered the Forties giant oil field in October 1970.

British Petroleum, now BP, owned the rig.

She ended up her days under a new owner drilling for oil off the coast of Africa.

A blowout occurred in 1980 and she was deliberately sank in deepwater.
