Oil worker airlifted to hospital after allergic reaction to nuts

A worker aboard an offshore platform was flown to hospital last night after apparently suffering an allergic reaction to eating nuts in a biscuit.

The alarm was raised just after noon and the Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Sumburgh was sent to the fixed installation about 115 miles north east of Shetland.

The worker was airlifted to the care of ambulance personnel on Shetland for onward transport to the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick.

The man’s condition is as yet unknown.
