The substructure for the world’s largest spar-platform, Aasta Hansteen, has arrived in southern Norway after a 14,500 nautical mile journey at sea.

The 200 meter long structure weighs 46,000 tonnes and was transported on the world’s largest heavy transport vessel, Dockwise Vanguard.

The development of the Aasta Hansteen gas field in the Norwegian North Sea is one of the biggest and most complex industrial projects in Europe.

With the 482 kilometer long Polarled pipeline the operator is taking the Norwegian gas infrastructure northward across the Arctic Circle for the first time, opening a new area for gas export to Europe.

The project involves the largest spar platform in the world, and a new depth record of 1,300 metres for a field development and pipeline..

The construction of the platform started some three years ago.
