Delivering competitive decommissioning in a $50 per barrel world

The challenge of ensuring safe, cost-effective and environmentally responsible decommissioning of UK oil and gas installations in demanding business conditions is Oil & Gas UK’s theme for a breakfast briefing in London on Thursday June 29.

Experts invited to speak at the Delivering the Competitive Advantage in a $50 World’ event include Oil & Gas UK’s decommissioning lead, Richard Heard; Audrey Banner; head of decommissioning policy, and Financial Governance, Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning; Gunther Newcombe, director of operations – Oil & Gas Authority (OGA) and BP’s vice president of decommissioning, Win Thornton.

Delegates will hear how industry is working with stakeholders to manage decommissioning projects proficiently with all their inherent uncertainties whilst working together to deliver ambitious cost reduction targets over time. The breakfast will also provide insight into the latest thinking from the regulator’s perspective within the current business environment and will see the OGA provide fresh insight into the total costs of decommissioning over years to come.

The event – at Herbert Smith Freehills offices -will provide an opportunity to hear an update on the scale and cost of decommissioning, including associated cost drivers, as well as different aspects of project planning and execution.

The roles the Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning and the Oil and Gas Authority play in decommissioning will be discussed at the event which will also give supply chain companies the opportunity to meet potential clients.
