help and advice on finding a job

CV Tips

Your CV is reflection of you and your abilities. It is your first opportunity to sell yourself to a prospective employer. The aim of your CV should be to secure an interview. For some jobs a CV is not required – seek advice from the prospective employer.

Before submitting a CV it may be worth considering some of the following points:

  • Ideally your CV should be no longer than 2 pages. Employers do not like to read essays. Be concise!
  • Consider the layout, font and paper. Your CV should look appealing and be easy to follow.
  • Check and double check your spelling!
  • Emphasise your relevant skills and highlight your achievements.
  • Bullet points are a good way to present information.
  • Suggested sections on your CV:
    • Personal Information including contact details
    • Personal Statement
    • Employment History including key responsibilities & achievements. Current / most recent job comes first.
    • Education
    • Training / Professional Qualifications
    • Interests & Hobbies (optional)
    • References (it’s acceptable to say these are available upon request)
