CV Tips
Your CV is reflection of you and your abilities. It is your first opportunity to sell yourself to a prospective employer. The aim of your CV should be to secure an interview. For some jobs a CV is not required – seek advice from the prospective employer.
Before submitting a CV it may be worth considering some of the following points:
- Ideally your CV should be no longer than 2 pages. Employers do not like to read essays. Be concise!
- Consider the layout, font and paper. Your CV should look appealing and be easy to follow.
- Check and double check your spelling!
- Emphasise your relevant skills and highlight your achievements.
- Bullet points are a good way to present information.
- Suggested sections on your CV:
- Personal Information including contact details
- Personal Statement
- Employment History including key responsibilities & achievements. Current / most recent job comes first.
- Education
- Training / Professional Qualifications
- Interests & Hobbies (optional)
- References (it’s acceptable to say these are available upon request)
